Bethel walks off two wins over Faulkner

Faulkner dropped a conference series for the first time all season when it lost both ends of a doubleheader to Bethel Friday.

BETHEL 4, FAULKNER 3

Bethel notched the walk-off winner in game one when Sebastian Cortes scored on Jack Surber's bases-loaded walk. The Eagles opened the scoring in the fourth on a solo homer by Trystin Raikes (JR/Ottawa, Ill.). In the bottom of the fourth, Nicholas Proto tied the game with a solo shot. Bethel took the lead on a two-run shot by Randy Guevarez.

The 3-1 advantage remained until the top of the sixth. Jacob Freeland (SR/Cape Coral, Fla.) tripled in Te'kwaan Whyte (SR/Stone Mountain, Ga.) before coming in to score himself.

Antonio Frias (JR/Panama City, Panama) took the loss while striking out eight batters over six and a third.

BETHEL 8, FAULKNER 5

Bethel took the back end of the doubleheader in the bottom of the 10th when Proto hit a three-run walk-off homer. The blast accounted for three of the seven runs Bethel scored in the final three innings of the game.

The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the first. Whyte tripled before scoring on Freeland's single to right. Jonathan Villa (JR/Ensenada, Mexico) plated Raikes in the second with a sacrifice fly to right. Marcus Ragan (SR/Vicksburg, Miss.) doubled in Tyler Paulsen (JR/Jolliet, Ill.).

Faulkner moved the lead to 5-1 in the fourth when Ragan singled in Tyler Paulsen and John Michael Mathews (JR/Birmingham, Ala.) swiped home. The Eagles used six pitchers in the loss.

Faulkner (34-10, 18-3 SSAC) faces Point Wednesday when it travels to Selma.
