Faulkner ran into a buzzsaw of sorts Wednesday, dropping both ends of a doubleheader in decisive fashion at Thomas University.

THOMAS 9, FAULKNER 1

The Lady Eagles surrendered four runs in the bottom of the third inning of game one before getting on the board. In the top of the fourth, Ashton Fielding (JR/Rockford, Ala.) doubled and later scored on a Julianne Wilkes (JR/Deatsville, Ala.) sacrifice fly.

Thomas rallied for three more runs in the home half of the frame and two others in the sixth to end the game.

Margarita Sena worked four innings to pick up the win for Thomas. Bailey Whitfield (FR/Alabaster, Ala.) took the loss for Faulkner. Faulkner tallied four hits in the loss.

THOMAS 8, FAULKNER 1

Game two of the series set up much differently as the Nighthawks carried a 2-0 lead into the top of the fifth inning. Courtney Ray (JR/Montgomery, Ala.) drew a leadoff walk to open the frame. Shelbie Burbage (SO/Prattville, Ala.) singled Ray home to narrow the deficit to 2-1.

Things fell apart for Faulkner in the home half of the inning. An error and a walk started the inning off in a bad way before a triple stretched the lead to 4-1. Thomas added a two-run single and a two-run homer to put the game away.

Fielding took the loss despite allowing only two earned runs over six innings of work.

Faulkner (24-15) resumes play Friday when it travels to Mobile for a doubleheader.
