Eagles trounce Stillman in series opener

Box Score

Faulkner hung eight runs on the board in the first inning and scarcely looked back while cruising to an 11-0 victory over Stillman Friday night.

Troy Black (SO/Dayton, Ohio) drew a bases-loaded walk to force home Hagen Holmstead (JR/Salt Lake City, Utah) for a 1-0 lead. Myron Mebane (SR/Tallahassee, Fla.) followed with a grand slam for the 5-0 Eagle advantage. After Stillman looked to be out of the inning with a ground ball, an error prolonged the agony. Faulkner capitalized on the miscue with three consecutive RBI doubles off the bats of Jonathan Villa (JR/Ensenada, Mexico), Marcus Ragan (SR/Vicksburg, Miss.) and Holmstead.

Evan Gillespie (JR/Princeton, N.J.) needed no further support as he cruised through five innings while scattering four hits and striking out seven batters. Joseph Vargas (JR/Toja Balto, P.R.) and Staton Todd (JR/Clinton, Miss.) each worked a scoreless inning to close the game.

Faulkner added three more runs in the fifth inning. Villa singled home Mike Battle (JR/Birmingham, Ala.) for the 9-0 lead. Max Guzman (JR/Miami, Fla.)'s fielder's choice scored Ben Hargis while Jacob Freeland (SR/Cape Coral, Fla.)'s single to right plated Stafford Quinnelly (JR/Suwanne, Ga.).

Faulkner (36-10, 19-3 SSAC) hosts Stillman for a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. The Eagles clinched a Top 2 seed with the win. They can clinch the No. 1 seed in the SSAC Tournament with a sweep Saturday.
