Three Eagles launch first Faulkner homers in grounding of Skyhawks

Box Score

Faulkner closed out its regular season home slate in dynamite fashion Tuesday, tallying all of its offense in a two-inning stretch while blasting Point University 16-5.

The Eagles opened the scoring with a five-run rally in the bottom of the second. Jonathan Villa (JR/Ensenada, Mexico) singled home Jacob Freeland (SR/Cape Coral, Fla.) and Hagen Holmstead (JR/Salt Lake City, Utah) for a 2-0 lead. Marcus Ragan (SR/Vicksburg, Miss.) followed with a three-run homer for his first dinger as an Eagle for the 5-0 advantage.

Faulkner followed with an 11-run third inning that blew the game wide open. Troy Black (SO/Dayton, Ohio) singled in Max Guzman (JR/Miami, Fla.) and Jacob Freeland. Villa's fielder's choice plated Troy Black to push it to 8-0. Ragan's fielder's choice plated Holmstead while Myron Mebane (SR/Tallahassee, Fla.) scored on an error for the 10-0 lead.

Guzman later doubled in DeJhard Kimbrough (JR/Atlanta, Ga.) and Ragan. Fresh off injury, Sam Anthony (JR/Columbus, Ga.) stepped into the box and launched a three-run shot deep into the Montgomery night for his first Faulkner home run. Two pitches later, Black went opposite field for his first Eagle homer and a 16-0 Faulkner lead.

Point put together five runs against the Eagles' relief corps. Faulkner (39-10, 21-3 SSAC) travels to Brewton-Parker Friday for the final regular season series.
