Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Evan Gillespie (JR/Princeton, N.J.) tossed a complete game without allowing an earned run Thursday while locking down an outright SSAC regular season title for Faulkner. The Eagles scored two runs in the first inning and three in the fifth to back their staff ace in the 5-1 road victory over Brewton-Parker.

Marcus Ragan (SR/Vicksburg, Miss.) doubled to open the game before Te'kwaan Whyte (SR/Stone Mountain, Ga.) launched a homer for the early 2-0 lead. In the fifth, Jacob Freeland (SR/Cape Coral, Fla.) doubled in Mike Battle (JR/Birmingham, Ala.) for the 3-0 advantage. Troy Black (SO/Dayton, Ohio)'s sacrifice fly to right drove in Hagen Holmstead (JR/Salt Lake City, Utah). Myron Mebane (SR/Tallahassee, Fla.) followed with a sacrifice fly of his own for the 5-0 lead.

Gillespie (9-0) struck out five batters over seven while scattering eight hits and issuing two walks.

FAULKNER 15, BREWTON-PARKER 3

Faulkner's offense cranked up the intensity in the nightcap, rushing out to a 15-0 lead before finishing off the 15-3 win. Ragan and Whyte started the game with back-to-back singles before combining for a double steal. A Holmstead grounder allowed both runs to score for the 2-0 lead.

The Eagles broke it open with a five-run second inning. Jonathan Villa (JR/Ensenada, Mexico) singled in Mebane and John Michael Mathews (JR/Birmingham, Ala.) to push it to 7-0. Whyte later hit the first pitch he saw out for his second two-run homer of the day. Following a pitching change, Max Guzman (JR/Miami, Fla.) rudely greeted the Crusader relief corps by depositing the first pitch he saw for his 14th home run of the season.

Things got no better for Brewton-Parker in the third as Faulkner rallied for five more runs with two out in the frame. Ragan drew a bases-loaded walk to force home Mebane. Whyte reached on an error, allowing Mathews to score. Guzman followed with a double to plate Villa, Ragan and Whyte.

Freeland opened the fourth with a solo homer to stretch it to 13-0. Black singled in Holmstead in the fifth to set it to 14-0. Sam Anthony (JR/Columbus, Ga.) went yard in the seventh for his second homer of the week, putting Faulkner up 15-0.

Antonio Frias (JR/Panama City, Panama)  (7-1) pitched plenty well enough for the win, striking out six over six innings of shutout ball while allowing only two hits.

Faulkner (41-10, 23-3 SSAC) wraps the series and the regular season Friday at 2 p.m.
