Faulkner's tremendous defense lifted the Lady Eagles over Middle Georgia State Friday at Wynn Field in a 3-0, 6-1 SSAC doubleheader sweep. Faulkner has allowed just one run in the last 37 innings of action.

Faulkner 3, Middle Georgia State 0

Caitlin Perry (SR/Montgomery, Ala.)'s gem neutralized the Knights in the series opener as Faulkner plated three in the first three innings to win the contest. Perry allowed just two hits and two free passes in a complete game shutout, striking out three in the process and moves to 12-5 on the season.

Taylor Parker (JR/Corner, Ala.) started a one out rally in the first inning with an infield single, her first of two in the contest. Abbigail Barron (JR/Panama City, Fla.) dropped a single to left to set the stage for Faulkner's RBI leader Kendall Bennett (JR/Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.). Bennett's single to center brought home the speedy Parker from second to open the scoring. Maggie Tipton (JR/Selma, Ala.) drove in Barron with two outs on a hot shot right back at Knight pitcher Caroline Newton to push the Lady Eagle advantage to 2-0.

Tipton found her second RBI of the game with third inning sacrifice fly to center to score Bennett who drew a walk and reached third on an Ashton Fielding (JR/Rockford, Ala.) double to deep right to finalize the scoring.

Shelbie Burbage (SO/Prattville, Ala.), Parker and Bennett each recorded two hits.

Faulkner 6, Middle Georgia State 1

A bend-but-don't-break defensive effort anchored behind Bailey Whitfield (FR/Alabaster, Ala.)'s complete game coupled with two big offensive innings sealed the daily sweep in the nightcap.

Faulkner wasted no time scoring in game two as Burbage drew a four pitch walk to open the bottom of the first before swiping second. Parker's single up the middle scored Burbage as Parker reached second on the throw. Barron followed with a single to center and scored Parker to put the Lady Eagles ahead 2-0.

The scoreboard would remain the same until the bottom of the fifth when the Lady Eagles used four hits and an error to plate four. Much like game one, Parker started the rally with a one out infield single, her fourth of the day. Barron would reach on an error and made way for Julianne Wilkes (JR/Deatsville, Ala.). Bennett picked up RBI 26 with a single to shallow center to bring home Parker. Ashton Fielding followed with a single through the right side to load the bases. After a fly out from Caity Jo Lee (SO/Wetumpka, Ala.), Courtney Ray (JR/Montgomery, Ala.) delivered a bases-clearing double with two outs to left-center to put the game out of reach.

Middle Georgia would score one in the sixth on a sacrifice fly, but could not muster a comeback.

Whitfield allowed just one run while scattering seven hits and striking out one and improves to 5-3 in her freshman campaign. Parker, Barron and Ray each had multiple hits in the game.
