Mondaini's late strike pushes Eagles past Warriors

Box Score

In a match with all the feelings of a 1-0 scoreline to either side, feelings became reality in the 85th minute as Guilherme Mondaini (JR/Rio das Ostras, Brazil) struck the lone goal of the contest to knock off a scrappy Webber International side Wednesday afternoon at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium.

This non-conference match was not for the faint hearted as the 99 degree heat index on a turf field intensified the physicallity where every touch was earned. The defensive stalemate was broken when Mondaini created space with a rollover at midfleid before delivering a wide pass to Mateus Cesar (SR/Salvador, Brazil). Cesar's outside run created space for the eventual goal scorer to find at the top of the box. With a collected worm-burner from 20 yards out, Mondaini spurred the ball past the diving keeper at the near post.

Caio Calado (JR/Sao Bernardo Do Campo, Sao Paulo, Brazil) preserved the lead and the clean sheet with a quick reaction save in the dying moments of the game after a scramble in the box fell to a Warrior striker six yards out. The Brazilian keeper earned his eighth career clean sheet, tying him with Diego da Silva for most career shutouts in program history.

Faulkner travels to Americus, Ga. Saturday to face NCAA Division II Georgia Southwestern at 5 p.m. eastern.
