Faulkner challenges Belmont before second half Bruin breakout

Box Score

The Eagles held their own against Belmont for the first half of the match before a trio of Bruin goals in the second half pulled the NCAA Division I side out of reach in a 4-1 loss Saturday evening at E.S. Rose Park in Nashville, Tenn.

Faulkner's defense held tough against the towering attack of Belmont through the first half. The only difference maker was a world class laser from Niccolo Dagnoni in the 32nd minute.

Belmont doubled the advantage in the 53rd minute before adding the third in the 69th.

Faulkner's high press paid off in the 87th minute when Dave Chesterman (SR/Carterton, Oxfordshire, England) forced a turnover deep in Belmont's defensive end before passing to Pedro Moura (JR/Garanhuns, Brazil) who scored his sixth goal of the season. Chesterman picked up his fourth assist.

Just 16 seconds later, Faulkner conceded a penalty which was converted to finalize the scoreline.

Caio Calado (JR/Sao Bernardo Do Campo, Sao Paulo, Brazil) saved five Belmont efforts in the loss.

The Eagles close non-conference play with a 5-1 record and outscoring their opponents 15-6. SSAC competition begins Saturday Oct. 5 at 3:30 p.m. against Dalton State.
