Faulkner takes two from Talladega Tornadoes

TALLADEGA, Ala. – Faulkner swept its first mid-week doubleheader of the season Tuesday when it hit the road to take a pair of wins from Talladega College.

FAULKNER 12, TALLEADEGA 8

The Eagles trailed 8-6 heading into the top of the seventh inning when the bats came to life and rallied for six runs in the final three outs for a 12-8 win. The Eagles got the job done with nine singles, drawing two each from Sam Anthony (SR/Columbus, Ga.) and Eriq White (SR/Snellville, Ga.). That duo also accounted for three RBIs apiece in the victory. Jonathan Villa (SR/Ensenada, Mexico) drove in a pair of a runs as well. Shawn Ross (JR/Fajada, Puerto Rico), Isaac Phillips (JR/Powder Springs, Ga.), Tommy Reyes-Cruz (JR/Quebec, British Columbia) and John Michael Mathews (SR/Birmingham, Ala.) each notched one RBI in the effort. Mike Battle (SR/Birmingham, Ala.) worked two innings in the start, surrendering one earned run. Stafford Quinnelly (SR/Suwanne, Ga.) picked up the win in his season debut, allowing two earned over an inning and two-thirds.

FAULKNER 8, TALLADEGA 4

The Eagles controlled things from the outset in game two of the twin bill, going on to an 8-4 win in five innings during a game that was called due to darkness.

Faulkner scored a pair of runs in the first inning for a 2-0 lead before hanging five on the board in the third and one in the fourth.

Ross and Hagen Holmstead (SR/Salt Lake City, Utah) each launched a homer in the contest. Ross tallied two RBIs while Holmstead accounted for four. Holmstead was the lone Eagle with multiple hits in the game. Rashad Lucas (SO/Panama City, Fla.) ripped a double and scored a run.

Staton Todd (SR/Clinton, Miss.) got the win in his season debut, striking out three batters over two and two-thirds innings of work while allowing one earned run.

Faulkner (14-2) opens SSAC play Friday when it travels to William Carey.
