Box Score HATTIESBURG, Miss. – For the first time since March 3, 2007, Faulkner suffered a 10-run loss as it dropped its SSAC opener Friday 10-0 to William Carey. The Crusaders hung four runs on the board in the first inning to stake Sloan Dieter to the early advantage. Gabriel Rosado doubled and scored before R.J. Stinson launched a three-run shot to left for the 4-0 lead all before Faulkner recorded a single out in the frame.
Antonio Frias (SR/Panama City, Panama) settled down and retired the next six batters. He went on to surrender just one more run the rest of the way but the Eagles found little success in trying to solve Dieter. The Crusader hurler struck out 10 batters over seven innings of work while surrendering three hits and three walks.
William Carey blew the game open with a four-run sixth inning. Jordan Szush singled in Dawson Ivey for the 5-0 lead before Dieter aided his own cause with a double that plated Patrick Lee, Rosado and Szush. Carey put the game away in the seventh when Colby Cagle singled home Dawson Ivey and Lee drove home Jay Johnston on a fielder's choice for the 10-0 win.
Faulkner (14-3, 0-1 SSAC) resumes the series against William Carey Saturday at 1 p.m.
