MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Faulkner fell to 0-4 on the season Friday when it dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Martin Methodist in both teams' SSAC opener.

MARTIN METHODIST 5, FAULKNER 1

The Lady Eagles tallied nine hits in game one of the twin bill but failed to drive anybody in. The lone Faulkner run of the contest came when Shelbie Burbage (JR/Prattville, Ala.) scored on a wild throw in the bottom of the third.

For its part, Faulkner got five innings of work out of Jeri Beasley (JR/Logan, Ala.), who gave up four earned runs over five innings.

MARTIN METHODIST 8, FAULKNER 6

The teams struggled with miscues in the second game of the series as each squad committed four errors in the seven-inning game. . After the Lady Eagles built a 3-0 lead, Martin scored in each of the final three innings for the 8-6 win.

Faulkner opened the scoring in the top of the first when Kendall Bennett (SR/Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.) drove in Burbage with a sacrifice fly. The Lady Eagles added to the lead in the third inning when Bennett singled home Taylor Parker (SR/Corner, Ala.). Maggie Tipton (SR/Selma, Ala.) followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Bennett. Faulkner scored a run in the sixth as Parker doubled in Abby Tindol (SO/Billingsley, Ala.). The Eagles notched two more in the seventh as Ashton Fielding (SR/Rockford, Ala.) and Tara Ammons (JR/Prattville, Ala.) each singled and scored on a pair of errors.

Katelynn Inness (FR/Niceville, Fla.) surrendered no earned runs on four hits with three walks and a strikeout in the loss.

Faulkner (0-4, 0-2 SSAC) resumes play in the series Saturday at 1 p.m.
