Lady Eagles suffer two walk-off losses Friday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Faulkner fell twice Friday in the Gulf Coast Invitational, sustaining seventh-inning defeats to both Campbellsville and LSU-Alexandria 6-5 and 1-0 scores respectively in Gulf Shores, Ala.

No. 13 Campbellsville 5, Faulkner 5

A three-run first inning sprung Faulkner to an advantage it would maintain until things unraveled in the sixth for the Lady Eagles. Shelbie Burbage (JR/Prattville, Ala.) opened the game with a single before swiping second. Taylor Parker (SR/Corner, Ala.)'s bunt single put runners on the corners with nobody out. Parker also took second before Ashton Fielding (SR/Rockford, Ala.) drove in the first run of the game. Tara Ammons (JR/Prattville, Ala.) drew a walk and swiped second as well to set the stage for Maggie Tipton (SR/Selma, Ala.)'s connection to cause chaos for the Campbellsville centerfielder, plating Parker and Ammons.

Burbage started the second inning with a one-out single and stole the fourth bag of the contest after. After another Parker single, the two runners advanced to second and third with two outs on a passed ball. Fielding found her second RBI of the event with a single to center to put Faulkner up four temporarily before the Tigers clawed back with a run in the bottom half of the inning.

Brianna Cagle (JR/Decatur, Ala.)'s single capitalized on Tipton's leadoff single and Dakota Berry (SR/Milton, Fla.)'s sacrifice to get the lead back to four with two outs in the third. A double and single to start the bottom of the fourth trimmed the lead back to three.

In the sixth with two runners on and two outs, a Faulkner error allowed two runs to score on the play and extend the inning for the tying run to score on the next at bat. Hannah Judd, who ended the contest with two hits, two walks and three runs, delievered the knockout punch as the first batter of the seventh with a home run to left.

Jeri Beasley (JR/Logan, Ala.) struck out four over ther first four innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs in the no decision. Bailey Whitfield (SO/Alabaster, Ala.) took the loss with two strikeouts over two innings, allowing just one earned.

LSU-Alexandria 1, Faulkner 0

The Lady Eagles played with fire consistently throughout the third meeting between these two in at a neutral venue, allowing eight hits and walking three batters, but kept the Generals off the scoreboard, stranding 10 runners. However, the acting home team capitalized on a defensive error to plate the sole run of the game in the final frame with one out to take their fifth win of the season.

Faulkner, conversely, registered just three hits in the contest, but provided tough defending to back Katelynn Inness (FR/Niceville, Fla.)'s performance in the circle for the first six innings. Inness pitched 6.1 innings and allowed no earned runs.

Inness did not allow an earned run in 6 1/3 while allowing eight hits.
