Lady Eagles finish Gulf Coast Invitational 2-4

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Faulkner rallied late against Grace College to knock off the Lady Lancers 5-3 concluding the Gulf Shores Invitational in its final game in Gulf Shores, Ala. Sunday afternoon after falling to (RV) Central Methodist 11-1.

(RV) Central Methodist (Mo.) 11, Faulkner 1 (Five Innings)

Spring forward failed to hinder the Missouri-based Eagles Sunday morning as they scored early and often in the first game of Faulkner's twin-bill. Faulkner surrendered two runs in the first before Hannah Criswell delivered a grand slam for Central Methodist in the second as part of a five run frame. Shelbie Burbage (JR/Prattville, Ala.) made Mae Mitchell's error count in the top of the third, coming home on a Taylor Parker (SR/Corner, Ala.) single after stealing a base for an SSAC-leading eighth time this season.

The fourth inning saw four green-clad Eagles score on four straight plate apperances to seal the scoreline.

The Montgomery-based Lady Eagles mustered just two hits in the five-inning affair. Jeri Beasley (JR/Logan, Ala.) took the loss, striking out two but allowing seven earned runs to score in two innings. Nicole Morrison (SO/Hueytown, Ala.) struck out one more while allowing four earned to score in the final two frames.

Faulkner 5, Grace (Ind.) 3

After surrendering three in the bottom of the first, Katelynn Inness (FR/Niceville, Fla.) shut down the Lady Lancer offense, paving the way for the Lady Eagles to make the comeback. Faulkner whittled the deficit scoring Taylor Parker in the third with a Caity Jo Lee (JR/Wetumpka, Ala.) sacrifice fly and again scoring the left fielder with a Tara Ammons (JR/Prattville, Ala.) single in the fifth. Burbage drove in Madison McKee (SO/Wetumpka, Ala.) and Abby Tindol (SO/Billingsley, Ala.) in the sixth to take the lead for good. Kendall Bennett (SR/Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.) plated Lee in the seventh to add an insurance run they would not need.

Inness allowed just three hits in the contest, allowing just one in the last six innings. Faulkner combined for 10 hits in the contest with seven different batters registering hits. Burbage, Parker and Abbigail Barron (SR/Panama City, Fla.) each tallied two hits.

The Lady Eagles sit at 3-9 overall and 1-3 in SSAC play. They re-enter league competition Friday and Saturday with a four-game series in Hattiesburg, Miss. against No. 18 William Carey.
