Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. – After
Ashlyn Adkins' tying three with 6.7 seconds left in regulation against Brewton-Parker, it appeared as though she would send Faulkner to overtime out of a timeout for the second time this week in Tine Davis Gymnasium to overcome bleak fourth quarters. Middle Georgia only had one second to end it in regulation Tuesday night, though, while Brewton-Parker had just under seven Saturday.
The Lady Barons called timeout, and inbounded to Sy-Marieona Williams. Williams, coming uncovered from inside the arc, milked down five seconds of the clock and drained the buzzer-beater three. The crushing 82-79 loss gives the Lady Barons a 4-0 sweep of Faulkner this regular season. The Lady Eagles fall to 11-12, having lost four of their last five.
Similar to Friday night's game, it was mostly a back-and-forth contest into the third quarter. Trailing 31-30 at halftime, Faulkner responded to Brewton-Parker scores with three
Ryann Sylvester layups where the redshirt senior, playing in her final home game, had wide-open looks under the basket after perfectly executed pick-and-rolls. A minute later, Faulkner started a 16-4 run that staked it to its largest lead of the contest at 54-43. However, Williams scored five of the visitors' next seven points to close the period down just 54-50. She then exploded for 20 of her team's 32 fourth-quarter points, with four long-range shots. The teams traded leads and scores, all leading to the down-to-the-wire ending.
Though Faulkner had a greater shooting percentage, and more points in the paint and points off turnovers, the deciding factor was rebounding once again. The Lady Barons had a whopping 50 to the Lady Eagles' 34.
Adkins tallied 18 points and seven rebounds.
Megan Wilkinson was close behind with 17 points, five boards, and two steals. Andrews and Sylvester each scored 13, while Holland had 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Williams was the clear difference-maker, as she came off the bench to rack up 30 points, along with six boards and two steals. Samerria Bryant was next in the score sheet with 12 points. Alexia Galloway had nine points, nine boards, three assists, and two steals. Madison Evans also scored nine, with 11 rebounds and four assists.
Sylvester was honored after the game, her 100th college game. Having played her first two years and earned all-conference honors at Mobile, she has amassed a total of 826 points, 340 rebounds and 103 assists. This season has featured career bests for her in three-point shooting efficiency and boards per game.
Faulkner now prepares for a rescheduled road tilt against Talladega on Tuesday.
