Box Score 2 WEST POINT, Ga. – Faulkner totaled 36 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Point University Tuesday, the Eagles' first midweek titl of the season.
FAULKNER 21, POINT 3
Faulkner blasted five homers while scoring in all but one inning on the way to a 21-3 win over Point in game one of the doubleheader.
Alex Arauz opened the scoring with a shot to left-center that also plated
Shawn Ross to put Faulkner up 2-0. Lucas later notched a two-run single to put Faulkner up 4-0 after the first. From there, Faulkner never looked back as they scored seven runs in the top of the second highlighted by a
John Michael Mathews grand slam.
The Eagles scored five more runs in the top of the third, anchored by a
Justice Lucas three-run homer.
Bo Seccombe stroked a three-run shot in the fifth before
Justin Lara hit a solo homer in the sixth.
Mathews and Lucas tallied five RBIs each while Seccombe and Arauz finished with three. Mathews and Arauz had three hits apiece.
Mike Battle (3-1) worked three innings on the bullpen day, allowing one run to pick up the win.
The offensive output is the largest since the Eagles scored 24 runs against Blue Mountain on March 10, 2016. The margin of victory is the largest since Faulkner beat Martin Methodist 18-0 on March 18, 2017.
FAULKNER 15, POINT 8
The Eagles gave up three runs in the top of the first inning of game two before rallying for seven in the second on the way to a 15-8 victory in the sweep. Arauz singled to lead off the inning ahead of an
Isaac Phillips walk followed by an Anthony bunt single to load the bases. Matthews then hit a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 3-1. Lucas later tripled to center to drive in Phillips and Anthony to tie the game. Lara flew out to center to drive in Lucas and give Faulkner the lead. A
Shawn Ross three-run homer left Faulkner up 7-3. The Skyhawks scored in the bottom of the third to cut it to 7-4 before the Eagles got the run back in the fourth when
Tommy Reyes-Cruz hit a grounder to score Lara.
Point's Blake Rupp hit a two-run homer in the fourth cut it to 8-6. The Eagles rallied for four runs in the fifth as Mathews hit a grounder to drive in Phillips to start the scoring. Lucas doubled home Mathews.
Jonathan Villa singled in Lucas before Lara scored to end the inning and set Faulkner ahead 12-6.
Faulkner capped its scoring in the top of the sixth as Anthony doubled in Ross and Phillips before scoring on Mathews' grounder.
Villa, Reyes-Cruz, Ross, Anthony and Lucas had two hits each. Ross, Mathews and Lucas drove in three apiece while Anthony knocked in two.
Ty Correa (1-0) worked three innings and struck out two for his first career win.
