STARKVILLE, Miss. - Men's golf nearly toppled conference foe William Carey Monday and Tuesday at the Mississippi State University Golf Course in the MUW Invitational while the women fell in the head-to-head competition with the Lady Crusaders.
The men's side of five teams came down to the two SSAC schools, with Faulkner placing four in the top five of the individual leaderboard of 25 golfers.
Tom Ammann's par on the playoff hole was unfortunately not enough to see him take the individual crown over William Carey's Antoine Djellab following an even-par tournament, shooting two-under-par 69 Tuesday.
Jake Campbell, who competed with the "B" team, joined "A" team members
Emile Raath and
Emerson Bam shooting a two-over-par 144 over the two round event, tying for third.
Trevor McCord, also on the "B" team finished two shots behind the Eagle flock who tied for bronze.
Susie Stell's third place finish in a 14 golfer field lead the Lady Eagles. Stell finished nine shots behind the even par score in first and two shots behind second. The small field saw just Faulkner and No. 3 William Carey compete as teams.
Baylee Vasquez shot a 25-over-par 167 and
Maribeth Reilly one shot behind to tie for seventh and place ninth, respectively.
The teams now turn their attention to the SSAC Men's and Women's Golf Championship with the men teeing off Monday and the women the following Monday.
