MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Faulkner (Ala.)'s
Hal Wynn has been named the 2020-21 SSAC Coach of Character, the Southern States Athletic Conference announced Friday.
About the Award
The award is given to a head coach who has been outstanding in embracing the five core values of the NAIA Champions of character initiative by deliberately teaching character to his/her student-athletes through sport. Each conference selects its award winner, and then the NAIA Coach of Character is chosen from the pool of conference winners.
They Said It
Ashton Fielding, Faulkner Softball Student-Athlete: "At the beginning of each season, we have a meeting where coach tells his players three expectations he expects out of everyone. These are to have a good work ethic, a good attitude and to be consistent. Coach Wynn is very consistent in all of these categories every day on and off the field. When a coach displays these expectations, it is contagious to the players."
Dr. Cindy Walker, Faulkner FAR: "He models Christian character for the student-athletes daily. He sets expectations and works to show student-athletes how those expectations can be met. He expects the same from his coaches. He reiterates to coaches regularly that success is more than win-loss records. Success is teaching athletes to be responsible adults."
Dr. Michael Williams, Faulkner President: "Hal's consistency over a lifetime is exemplary. He methodically goes about his business with precision and commitment to excellence. His effort to win is never at the sacrifice of integrity or personal character."
