Micala Fisanick cashed in an
Ashlyn Adkins dish for a three that vaulted Faulkner to a 9-7 lead. The Lady Eagles never lost the advantage again.
The bucket ignited a 12-0 run that moved the lead to 18-7 before Sy-Marieona Williams hit a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to 18-9. From there, Faulkner put together a 10-2 run to end the frame and lead 28-11 after a quarter in which it held Brewton to four field goals made.
The Lady Eagles began the second with a 7-0 run that moved the lead to 35-11 before Angel McRae's free throw got Brewton off the deck in the frame. The make started a 12-0 BPC stretch that narrowed the deficit to 14 before Adkins knocked down a jumper with 3:29 left in the period to snap the run. With 2:46 remaining until the break, Madison Evans connected on a jumper that launched an 11-0 run to end the half with Faulkner up 41-36.
Evans scored just 12 seconds into the third to cut it to a one-possession game. After a pair of
Morgan Holland free throws, Alexia Galloway hit a three to slice the deficit to two points. Galloway then equalized the game with a made jumper nearly four minutes later.
With 4:44 left in the third,
Channing Gafford hit two free throws to put Faulkner up 45-43. Fisanick then knocked down a jumper to move it to 47-43. Free throws for BPC cut it down to one point again before an Adkins three and a
Nequoia Adams jumper left the Lady Eagles up six.
McRae made the first shot of the fourth quarter, cutting the Faulkner advantage to 55-53. Fisanick answered with a jumper 15 seconds later to move the lead back to four. The teams then traded buckets until Gafford's three-point make at the 3:18 mark left Faulkner up 71-64. The Lady Eagles connected on all six free throw attempts in the final frame to ice the game.
Faulkner shot 42.2 percent from the floor in the game and made all 13 of its free throw attempts. The Lady Eagles won the rebound battle 52-39 and assisted on 12 of 27 made baskets.
Fisanick topped Faulkner with 24 points including 18 in the first half. Adkins finished with 17 points while
Angela Grant had 13 to go along with nine rebounds. Gafford turned in a double-double with 10 points and 13 boards while Holland had 14 rebounds.
Faulkner (15-11, 8-6 SSAC) returns to action Monday when it hosts Middle Georgia State at 5:30 p.m.
