MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Faulkner finished off a four-win week Saturday when it swept a doubleheader against Indiana Wesleyan to take three games in the four-game series.
FAULKNER 8, INDIANA WESLEYAN 4
The Eagles put together one of their better offensive performances in game one Saturday, scoring in each of the last four innings to win 8-4.
After Lucas Goodin put IWU up with a single to plate Denver Blinn in the first, Faulkner got off the deck in the third.
Shawn Ross singled home
Sammy De La Cruz to tie the game. The Eagles took the lead in the fourth when
Peyton Davis's grounder pushed
Ben Hargis across.
Tommy Reyes-Cruz later scored on a wild pitch for the 3-1 lead.
Goodin struck again in the fifth when his single drove home Blinn. MJ Stavola tied the game with a single to score Goodin.
Faulkner flipped the switch offensively in the bottom of the fifth when it plated three runs. Ross singled in De La Cruz to give the Eagles the lead.
Evan Gilliam drew a bases-loaded walk to send
Juan Trinidad home before Ross scored on an error. Solo homers by De La Cruz and Ross in the sixth put the game out of reach.
Alexis Saldana struck out eight over four and two-thirds while allowing three earned runs.
Nicholas Graham got the win with four strikeouts over an inning and a third.
FAULKNER 4, INDIANA WESLEYAN 3
Jack Brinkley drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth to send Hargis home for the 4-3 lead in the final game of the series as Faulkner won 4-3. The Eagles opened the scoring in the first when De La Cruz made it home on a wild pitch.
Jordan Funk launched a two-run shot in the second that drove in Gilliam.
After Goodin homered in the third, Stavola singled in Colby Jenkins in the seventh. Jeff Morton then walked to force home Goodin and tie the game.
Chance Denson shined in the start, eating four innings for the Eagle and allowing one run.
Ford Hilyer than worked a scored four outs.
Brayan Garcia entered in the eighth and worked two scoreless innings for the win.
Faulkner (6-8) hosts No. 12 Loyola next weekend in the opening of SSAC play.
