Lady Eagles split doubleheader with Middle Georgia

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Faulkner split a doubleheader with SSAC foe Middle Georgia State Sunday, rallying in game two to salvage the day.

MIDDLE GEORGIA STATE 5, FAULKNER 1

The Knights jumped on top early in game one, plating three runs in the top of the first. Emma Raulerson doubled in Karlee Back ahead of a two-run homer by Georgia Bice. Lauren Heath singled in a pair of runs in the fourth to move it to 5-0.
Faulkner got its lone run in the fourth when Nicole Morrison doubled home Colby Adams to set the score at 5-1. Meagan Schwieterman (7-1) suffered her first loss of the season, giving up five earned runs in the five innings of work. Julianna Thames worked two scoreless innings of relief to cap the game.

FAULKNER 5, MIDDLE GEORGIA STATE 4

The Lady Eagles capped off a comeback win in game two when Tara Ammons hit a two-run homer in the sixth to drive in Caity Jo Lee and put Faulkner ahead 5-4. Faulkner started the scoring in the game as Gracie Pittman drove in Shelbie Burbage with a fielder's choice. Erika Mitchell singled in Lee to make it to 2-0. After Middle Georgia reeled off four unanswered runs, Pittman scored on an error in the third to cut it to 4-3.

Thames (2-2) worked two and two-thirds innings of perfect relief for the victory.

Faulkner returns to action Friday when it travels to Mobile.
