MONTGOMERY, Ala. –
July Sosa continued his dominant stretch as Faulkner picked up another SSAC victory Friday when it downed Blue Mountain 8-2 Friday.
The Eagles opened the scoring in the home half of the first inning as
Justice Lucas singled home
Sammy De La Cruz.
Jordan Funk later drew a bases-loaded walk to plate
Ben Hargis for the 2-0 lead.
Evan Gilliam stretched the lead in the third when he stroked a sacrifice fly to center that drove in Hargis for the 3-0 advantage.
The Eagle bats struck again in the sixth when
Tommy Reyes-Cruz singled to right to drive in Lucas. The score moved to 5-0 when De La Cruz hit a sacrifice fly to plate Gilliam.
Hargis scored on an error in the seventh to move it to 6-0. Reyes-Cruz added two more insurance runs when he singled in Gilliam and Lucas for the 8-0 advantage.
That proved to be more than enough offense for Sosa. The reigning NAIA Pitcher of the Week struck out 12 batters over seven innings of work while allowing two hits and a walk. He faced two batters over the minimum through seven while moving his season record to 5-1.
Faulkner (16-10, 6-1 SSAC) returns to the field Saturday at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader to wrap the series with the Toppers.
