Nequoia Adams and
Angela Grant forced nightmares for the Lady Crusaders as the duo combined for 41 as Faulkner (15-4, 7-2 SSAC) picked up a massive SSAC road win 63-57 to add separation in second place in the league standings.
William Carey (11-5, 5-4 SSAC) took a 47-46 lead with a Madelyn Ladner layup with 5:33 to go, but Faulkner sparked a 10-0 run over the next 1:08 with
Neely Johns scoring five of her seven of the afternoon in the stretch after Grant started the sequence converting an and-one off an offensive rebound. The Lady Eagles scored 23 in the fourth quarter after scoring 28 in the fourth Thursday night.
Faulkner started the game on fire as it jumped to a 13-2 lead 6:36 into the game behind eight points from the point guard from Huntsville, Ala. as Adams knocked down a pair of threes and a couple free throws. After hitting its first free throw attempt, William Carey responded with a personal 8-0 run from Lauren Rowley to cut the lead to two but Grant found a bucket to expand the lead back to four at the end of the first.
Faulkner trailed twice in the second quarter but a three from
Lanie Henderson gave
Reed Sutton's squad the lead going into the locker room as Faulkner held the hosts scoreless over the final 3:52 of the first half.
Adams finished the game with 26 points, seven assists and six rebounds. She adding to her 21 point performance Thursday night at home against Middle Georgia. She has now eclipsed the 20 point mark three straight games. Grant finished one board shy of her fourth consecutive double-double with fifteen points.
Morgan Holland had nine points and eight rebounds.
The Lady Eagles now sit two games clear of the logjam from third to fifth at 5-4 with a current head-to-head advantage on all three of Brewton-Parker, William Carey and Mobile at the halfway mark of the conference slate.
Faulkner looks to avenge one of its two SSAC losses Thursday night as it welcomes Life (11-7, 4-5 SSAC) to Tine Davis Gymnasium for the first time in conference play.
