Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | by: Carter Moles

Win streak snapped at Brewton-Parker

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - Neely Johns dropped 18 in just her second varsity start but it was not enough as the Lady Eagles fell 71-46 Thursday night at Brewton-Parker in the SSAC Women's Basketball Game of the Week.

The game pitted two squads on six game win streaks together but it was the hosts who kept the run alive. Johns hit a three off of Kinlee Varnell's assist with 1:32 left in the first quarter to give Faulkner a 17-16 advantage but the Lady Barons knocked down a triple with 37 seconds to go in the opening stanza to take the lead into the second quarter where they took control.

Faulkner found just two baskets in the second quarter as the Barons separated themselves.

Head Coach Reed Sutton was proud of his team's efforts, especially of the bench players that had to step up a bit more. "Brewton-Parker is a very deep team that can beat you in a lot of ways. They are 7-0 after the break since adding Daisha Terry and Micah Bess into the lineup. Samerria Bryant is now healthy and playing well. We knew we had a tall task. Our team played hard. Neely is a bright spot right now. She is scoring it well. I thought Jolee [Cole], Mert [Mary Alice Murner], Ella Jane [Connell], and Bridget [Johnson] gave us quality minutes off the bench and that game gives us some film to continue to develop our bench. We will lick our wounds and get back to work."

Lanie Henderson had eight points in her first collegiate start. Nequoia Adams had nine points and four assists.

Faulkner hits the road to Loyola next week to face the current conference leaders and the No. 10 team in the country Thursday night.
