LEBANON, Tenn. – Faulkner's season reached its conclusion Saturday with a 10-3 road loss against Cumberland. The Eagle defense kept Faulkner in it, holding the Phoenix to a second quarter touchdown and a fourth quarter field goal. Faulkner allowed just 253 yards of total offense and forced three turnovers.
Jerrell Williamson and
Kordell King each intercepted a pass while
Brandon Thrasher recovered a fumble. Williamson paced the squad in tackles with 10 while
Emmanuel Olaitan had nine including one for loss.
For its part, Faulkner managed just 30 yards of total offense, despite passing for 55 yards. Tight end
Brody Smith had to finish the game at quarterback for Faulkner throwing the ball nine times and completing five for an interception.
Faulkner got its scoring on a 39-yard field goal from
Caden Davis with 5:03 left in the second quarter. The kick capped a seven-play, 50-yard drive that saw
Raequan Beal hit
Daimon Hitchcock for a 29-yard pass that included a roughing the passer penalty at the end of it. Davis also punted six times in the game, giving him 80 such kicks on the season and tying the program record for most punts by an individual in a campaign. The feat ties Jared Corder who punted 80 times in 2009.
The offensive output is the lowest in a game in program history with the previous low coming against Lambuth in 2009 when the Eagles had just 64 yards.
Faulkner ends the season at 2-8 overall and 0-6 in the Mid-South Conference.
