MONTGOMERY, Ala. – A back-and-forth affair turned with 6.5 seconds left Tuesday as Faulkner fell 75-74 to Brewton-Parker. The Lady Eagles took the lead with 1:18 remaining when
Evaiah Burrows turned a
Nequoia Adams pass into a three from the corner to vault her team in front 74-73.
The lead held until 6.5 seconds left when Madison Evans drove toward the basket and got rewarded with a foul call that sent her to the line. She made both free throws to put BPC up 75-74. Adams tried to answer in the closing seconds on a drive through contact that resulted in no call just before the final buzzer sounded.
The night truly proved a game of runs as Faulkner shot 68.8 percent from the floor during a frenetic second quarter that saw it outpace the Barons 30-12. Brewton-Parker answered with a run of its own in the third that saw it shoot 50 percent from the floor and outscore the Lady Eagles 34-15.
The Barons went up by 10 with 8:37 left in the game when Keonya Mincey drained a three off a Tajahnae Wiggins assist. From there, Faulkner began to claw back into it. Adams, Burrows and
Neely Johns made consecutive layups to cut it to 69-65. Adams connected on another runner with 5:45 left to narrow it to 69-67. The teams then traded shots twice to get the BPC lead to 73-71. A
Morgan Holland steal with 1:31 left set up the Burrows three that ignited the end game sequence.
The Barons shot 41.2 percent from the floor in the game while Faulkner hit 43.5 percent of its shots. Faulkner won most of the ancillary categories including points in the paint, points off turnovers, fast break points, bench points, and second chance points. However, the Lady Eagles shot just 14 percent from three on 21 attempts while the Barons cashed in 10 of 32 heaves from beyond the arc.
Adams paced the Lady Eagles with 21 points, five rebounds, three assists and four steals.
Kinlee Varnell added 10 points and 11 rebounds in the loss. Faulkner (3-8, 0-3 SSAC) play again Saturday when they travel to Middle Georgia State.
