MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner completed the sweep over Indiana Wesleyan with a commanding 10-4 victory Saturday afternoon at Harrison field to improve to 8-6 overall behind a massive day from
Trevor Torppa.
The Eagles traded punches in the first two and a half innings before
Jack Brinkley, the walk off hero from Friday night, launched a two run homer to put Faulkner ahead for the first time 3-2. However, the Wildcats countered in the top of the fourth with a homer of their own to tie the game again.
Jorge Lucero's leadoff single in the bottom half of the frame started a rally of capitalizing on Wildcat battery miscues as
Trevor Torppa walked and the duo advanced on a passed ball to allow a
Drew Mackie grounder to plate Lucero. Torppa would come home on a wild pitch the next at bat to give the first multiple run lead of the day for either team.
Torppa got involved in the action again as a sixth inning leadoff single turned into a run from a Mackie knock ahead of a solo shot from
Cristian Martin to balloon the lead to 7-3.Â
Torppa put the bow on the day with a three run shot in the seventh. The first baseman would end the day three for three with three runs scored and three RBIs.Â
Alexis Saldana delivered a great start allowing just four hits and three runs over seven innings while striking out seven.
Iroel Ruiz was strong in relief allowing just three hits and one run over two innings to close out the game.
Faulkner hits the road one more time before conference play as it heads to Pulaski, Tenn. to take on the UT Southern Firehawks at 1 p.m.Â
