WEST POINT, Ga. - A tough first inning was too much to overcome as the Eagles dropped a midweek contest to future SSAC foe Point Tuesday afternoon 15-5. After a one-two-three top half, Faulkner could not pick the bats up again until the Skyhawks scored nine runs on eight hits.
Cristian Martin turned a leadoff hit by pitch into a run after
Francisco Soriano's double and
Jose Vargas's grounder.
Jorge Lucero drove in Soriano a couple of batters later to cut the deficit to 9-2. However, the Skyhawks answered back with six runs on two hits highlighted by a grand slam in the bottom half.
Lucero hit a two run homer in the sixth and
Jose Vargas drove in
Josh Smith in the seventh, but it was not enough to avoid the run rule.
Cade White worked an effective inning in relief for his first varsity appearance.
Faulkner returns to conference play Friday and Saturday with a series at Talladega.
