BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – Faulkner got dominant pitching and timely hitting in extra innings of game two to salvage a doubleheader split against SSAC foe Blue Mountain Christian Thursday evening.
BLUE MOUNTAIN CHRISTIAN 6, FAULKNER 2
A disastrous fifth inning spelled doom for Faulkner in game one of the doubleheader as the Toppers plated five runs in the frame on the way to a 6-2 win.
The Lady Eagles opened the scoring in the third when
Erika Mitchell's double drove home
Gracie Pittman and
Anna Purvis. The advantage held until Blue Mountain flipped the scoreboard when it strung together six hits in the fifth inning and utilized an aggressive run game that featured four stolen bases.
Haley McDaniel drove in Jadyn Yarbro with a single to center. Tyra Yahola tied the game with a single that scored Evi Edwards. Mallory Jo Mitchell then doubled in Yahola and McDaniel to put the Toppers on top. Lane Thaxton added one more run with a single that drove home Mitchell. The insurance run arrived in the sixth when Jaci White plated Yarbro with a sacrifice fly to center.
Harley Mullins (6-4) handled the business in the circle for BMC, striking out 10 over seven innings of work while scattering five hits and two walks.
