Faulkner Falls to Rust in NAIA Tournament

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY.– Faulkner's history making season came to an end Tuesday night, falling to Rust College 71-51.

The first half featured a mostly defensive battle, with both teams struggling to create any offense. The Lady Eagles went on an 11-6 run sparked by a Morgan Holland layup to close out the half up 29-28.

Faulkner started the third quarter on a 11-5 run with a couple of layups from Angela Grant, an Evaiah Burrows three and a fast break layup from Holland put the Lady Eagles up by seven with 6:21 to go. Rust began a quick run to go up 46-44 and kept the lead for the rest of the game. The Bearcats won the rebounding battle 37-27 and scored 26 points off of turnovers as well.

Coach Reed Sutton said after the loss, "Rust did a great job tonight, they deserved to advance. They turned us over 11 times and got 12 offensive rebounds in the second half. They were the tougher team for 40 minute. We lost our composure and couldn't regain it because of their killer instinct. We wish their players and coaches the very best."

The loss ends what has been an incredible season for Sutton's program. Who won their first conference title in program history, reached 20+ wins for the first time since 2016, and made their first tournament appearance since 2018
"We aren't going to let 20 minutes of bad play steal so many moments of joy from this season." said Coach Sutton, who then went on to talk about his two seniors Jolee Cole and Angela Grant, "We are so grateful for the contributions of Jolee and Angela. They left us a better program then they found us. Their families have been so supportive and are Eagles for life!"

The Lady Eagles finish the season 25-7.
