MONTGOMERY, ALA. - The weather was melting, but the Eagles were on fire Saturday as the Eagles continued a historic start to the season with two hat tricks in the match for the first time ever and an individual three assist game for just the second time ever en route to scoring 11 goals in an 11-1 thrashing of Florida College at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium, scoring the second most goals in a match in program history.
Antoine Marques scored his second career hat trick as
Thomas Buijs floated a ball down the left wing where
Julio Souza crossed to the all-time leading goal scorer who tucked the ball away for the first goal in the eighth minute. In the 19th minute, Buijs laced another ball for Marques to run onto and it made it 3-0 after a
Caio Pereira header from a
Matheus Rodrigues corner in the 15th. The Frenchman completed the hat trick in the 63rd with an assist from Pedro Aragão.
Gabriel Dias also turned in a hat trick that he started by answered a great free kick goal on Florida College's only shot on goal in the 52nd minute with a 57th minute goal with assist from
Ilan Tabet. Dias put the bow on the match with goals in the 81st from Aragão and Rokbrand's assist in the 89th.
Matteo Manzoni scored in the 57th with Marques's assist on a back post run. In the 69th minute, Aragão was pulled down in the box as
Matheus Rodrigues grabbed the ball and tucked away the penalty. In the 77th,
Juan Rojas Gomez picked up the ball deep into Florida College territory and floated his shot to the top right corner to make it 8-1. He made his double as the Eagles hit double figures in the 83rd for the 10th goal.
Pedro Aragão finished with three assists, tying him with Alexandre Padoveze against Tennessee Temple in 2009, the only match that surpassed Saturday's goalscoring output with a 13-0 win, for the most in a single match with a hand in four straight goals with the penalty drawn not counting as an assist.
Faulkner outshot the Falcons 25-4 and allowed just two shots on goal. Faulkner outshot its opponents 44-4 in shots on goal this week with an 18-2 goal difference.
The Eagles play a huge match Wednesday at 3 p.m. when they take on Cumberland (Tenn.) who is receiving votes in the most recent poll.
