GEORGETOWN, Ky. – Faulkner scored a pair of late touchdowns to avoid the shutout Saturday as it fell 45-14 to No. 17 Georgetown.
The Eagles got on the board with 9:05 left in the game when
Evan Eschbach connected with
Drea Shumaker on a 24-yard touchdown strike. After
Jakai Stephens snuffed the ensuing Tiger drive with a strip sack, the Eagles marched 58 yards in eight plays, culminating the possession when Eschbach connected with
Lamarie Mitchell for a 1-yard score.
Georgetown controlled the early portion of the game, getting on the board when Gehrig Slunaker hit Jahmir Ackerson for a 13-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. A Drew Rader field goal moved the game to 10-0. Ackerson scored on a 13-yard run in the second ahead of a 3-yard Darius Neal touchdown rush in the closing seconds of the frame.
A pair of defensive touchdowns in the third quarter functionally put the game out of reach as Chad Holleran returned an interception and Javyn Martin returned a fumble. Drew Baker capped the Georgetown scoring with a 2-yard run late in the third quarter to move the lead to 45-0.
Georgetown ran for 249 yards and threw for 255 on the day while the Eagles got 236 of their 295 yards through the air.
Eschbach completed 16 of 33 passes for 187 yards while
Duece Marshall hit on 4 of 6 passes for 49 yards. Marshall passed the ground game with 30 yards rushing while Shumaker led the receivers with 54 yards.
Caleb Williams had 12 tackles in the game while
Jerrell Williamson finished with 11 including three for loss and a pair of sacks.
Faulkner (2-4, 0-2 MSC) returns to the friendly confines of Billy D. Hilyer Stadium Saturday, Oct. 19 when it hosts University of the Cumberlands at 11 a.m. for Homecoming.
