MONTGOMERY, Ala. -
Keyarra Scottland,
Grace Anne Rose and
Ruthie Smith took over Tuesday night, combining for 58 points in a 84-48 rout of SSAC foe Middle Georgia State in nonconference action Tuesday night in Tine Davis Gymnasium with the freshman duo of Scottland and Rose both setting career highs.
Faulkner jumped ahead quick as Rose poured in six of the game's first 10 points around a Scottland layup to take an 8-2 lead that Smith later turned to an eight point advantage before the first media timeout and then scored the next seven for the Lady Eagles to close out the first quarter with a 17-11 lead. At the media timeout, All-American guardÂ
Nequoia Adams returned to the floor for the first time since suffering a season-ending injury Feb. 3 against Blue Mountain.
The Lady Eagles clamped down defensively in the second quarter, holding the Knights to 25 percent shooting and just 10 points while conversely shooting 66.7 percent from the floor with eight buckets to balloon the lead to 37-21 at half.Â
Scotland continued to go crazy in the third quarter, dropping 12 more with a pair of threes. A common theme of the night continued through the second half was the Lady Eagles outrebounded Middle Georgia 26-10 in the half. Faulkner ended the night with a 47-21 advantage on the glass.Â
Scottland ended the night with 25 points with shooting 77 percent from the floor to go along with five boards. Smith 17 dropped led the floor with seven rebounds to go alongside a pair of blocks and a steal. Rose's 16 points came on 55.6 percent shooting and five rebounds.
Faulkner improves to 3-3 on the season and have won the last five matchups with the Knights. The Lady Eagles travel to Cochran on January 14 for the contest that counts towards the SSAC records.
Faulkner travels to Henderson, Tenn. Thursday to take on sister school Freed-Hardeman. Unfortunately, tipoff time could not be 728b so the teams settled on a 5:30 p.m. start.Â
