MARIETTA, Ga. – Faulkner dropped a non-conference tilt against a familiar adversary Monday night when it lost 89-75 to SSAC foe Life University. The Eagles never led in the game and trailed by as many as 18 on a night that saw the home team assist on 23 of 32 made baskets.
Life knocked down 50.8 percent of its shots, including the 18 three-pointers it made at a 42.9 percent clip. The Running Eagles also won the rebounding battle 41-37, buoyed by 31 boards on the defensive end.
For its part, Faulkner shot the ball 72 times but only made 30 of its field goal attempts, struggling in particular from beyond the arc. The Eagles missed 18 of the 25 threes they attempted in the contest.
Faulkner stayed within one possession for most of the first half until a late surge put the Eagles firmly in the rearview. An 8-2 Life run over the final 2:27 of the first half preceded a 9-2 run to open the second. The consecutive hot streaks moved the score from 38-35 to 55-39. Faulkner got no closer than 11 the rest of the way.
K.J. Rogers topped the Eagles with 21 points to go along with nine rebounds and four assists.
Jonathan Garcia added 19 points.
