Box Score 2 Gainesville, Ga. - The Lady Eagles split the opening doubleheader. Faulkner took game one 7-4. Brenau took game two 7-6 despite the Lady Eagles closing the gap after being down 7-3 through five innings. The Golden Tigers were just too much for Faulkner in the top of the seventh inning.
Faulkner 7, Brenau (Ga.) 4
The Lady Eagles took game one of opening day play against the Brenau Golden Tigers. Faulkner was able to put the game away in the seventh inning, but Brenau kept it close the entire game.
Chloe Davidson had the lead-off single and was able to eventually score off an RBI single to left field from
Gracie Pittman. Brenau then tied it up from an RBI single by Peyton Hawkins allowing Whitney Hulsey to score from second.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Golden Tigers scored two runs pushing their lead 4-3 as they scored off a single to the outfield from Cameron Harkey with two runners scoring.
In the top of the seventh inning, the Lady Eagles started with two back-to-back hit-by pitches to get
Gracie Pittman and
Ivey Hill on base. As Abby Hill steps up to the plate she singles to center field pushing in two runs by Pittman and Hill. With bases loaded and
Chloe Davidson at the dish she singles to right for the RBI.

In the bottom of the seventh Faulkner seals the game with a pop-up to second base, a strikeout from
Katelynn Inness, and another pop-up to second base to end the ball game.

In game two of the doubleheader, the Lady Eagles started the top of the first inning with a walk from
Chloe Davidson. The Golden Tigers then were able to secure two straight outs. With
Madelyn Becker at the plate, she hit an RBI homerun bringing in Davidson and herself. Brenau answered back in the bottom of the second with three runs of their own.
Through five innings the Lady Eagles found themselves down 7-3. With
Chloe Davidson on second and
Kaileigh Harrison on third, and
Anna Purvis at bat. Purvis singles to centerfield pushing Harrison and Davidson home from the 2RBIs.
With two outs in the top of the sixth for Faulkner and
Sarah Williams in the box. The Lady Eagles close the lead within one run off a Williams single RBI allowing
Anna Catherine Segrest to score from third making the score 7-6.
With the game on the line and the top of the seventh inning the Golden Tigers were able to keep Faulkner from completing the doubleheader sweep. The final score was 7-6 after the Golden Tigers got three outs early in the top half of the final inning.
Faulkner returns to the diamond Friday, Feb. 16 when it travels to Oakwood for a doubleheader.
