Montgomery, Ala. - The Lady Eagles split the first home doubleheader of the season with the Brewton Parker Lady Barons. Brewton Parker took game one 4-2. Faulkner took game two with a walk-off RBI in the bottom of the 10
th inning to pull off the series split.
Brewton Parker 4, Faulkner 2
The Lady Eagles dropped game one to Brewton after the Lady Barons were able to pull away in the top of the seventh inning pushing the final score 4 to 2. Faulkner had kept the score tied one to one going into the seventh inning.
Through three innings the game remained scoreless. At the bottom of the third
Anna Catherine Segrest doubles to center field.
Gracie Pittman takes the dish and makes it to first base off the hit by pitch. With two Lady Eagles on base and
Erika Mitchell up to the box, she singles to first for the RBI and allows Segrest to score.
In the top of the fifth inning, Brewton Parker ties the game up off an error from
Anna Purvis. The game remained tied until the top of the seventh when the Lady Barons pushed their lead to four by two RBIs from Hailey Gabrich and BryAnn Pound.
With the bottom of the seventh and the Lady Eagles down three and one out,
Chloe Davidson doubles to left field.
Anna Purvis in the box flies out to centerfield for the sacrifice RBI allowing Davidson to score. The Lady Eagles bring it within two points, but the Lady Barons avoid the comeback with two more outs to seal the victory for game one.
Faulkner 5, Brewton Parker 4
In game two the Lady Eagles found themselves down four to one in the bottom of the seventh. With the game on the line, the bats got hot late. The Lady Eagles pushed the game to extra innings after three runs scored to tie the game.
Through three innings the Lady Eagles had let the lead get to three points going into the bottom of the fourth. The Lady Eagles were able to finally score off an RBI single from
Abby Terrell to allow
Ashtyn Pannell to score from second base.
The Lady Eagles and Lady Barons would battle back and forth for three more innings not allowing another run for either team. That is until in the bottom of the seventh inning Faulkner began to mount the comeback with several singles from the Lady Eagles. With the bases loaded, one out, and the game up for grabs,
Anna Catherine Segrest takes the plate. She singles out to the shortstop for the second out, but she allows runners to advance and
AnnaMarie Stooksbury to score. This brought the game within two points.
Anna Purvis then steps up to the box and singles to right field for the two-run RBI pushing runners in to tie the ball game up.
The Lady Barons avoid the seventh inning walk-off and force the game to extra innings. With the game on the line and either the sweep or the split, the Lady Eagles take it to the bottom of the 10
th inning. The international tiebreaker into effect puts Segrest on second base, with
Anna Purvis up to bat. She single bunts and allows
Anna Catherine Segrest to advance to third. Purvis then steals second on the next at-bat placing runners at third and second. Two outs,
Erika Mitchell takes the plate. She singles down the infield line for the walk-off RBI, and Segrest scores from third pulling the extra inning comeback off for the doubleheader split.
The Lady Eagles return to action on Saturday, February 24 when they host SSAC member #16 Middle Georgia State for another doubleheader. The first pitch is set for 1 pm.
