Lady Eagles Split Double Header with #16 Knights

Montgomery, Ala. -  The Lady Eagles hosted number 16 ranked Middle Georgia on Saturday for Faulkner's second SSAC double-header. Faulkner went to extra innings in both games against the Knights. In game one the Lady Eagles picked up the win off a wild pitch to finish the game four to three. In the second game, the Knights were able to pick up the split after a two-run home run to seal the game three to one.

Faulkner 4, Middle Georgia 3

In game one the Lady Eagles found themselves down three to zero through four innings. The Knights were batting well and put up two runs in the first inning and another in the third. They were able to keep the Lady Eagles scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning. Ashtyn Pannell led off for Faulkner and doubled to left center. Chloe Davidson then singled down the left-field line. Anna Purvis at the box hits a fly out to the infield but grabs the sacrifice RBI allowing Pannell to score.

At the bottom of the sixth inning, Ivey Hill scored from second after a wild throw from the shortstop. This brought the Lady Eagles to within one point.  The Knights would get through the inning and on to the seventh inning of the game.

After keeping Middle Georgia from scoring the Lady Eagles headed to the bottom of the seventh. Chloe Davidson at the dish and gets walked to put the tying runner on first. Anna Catherin Segrest then hit the sacrifice bunt to push Davidson to second base. On the next play, Anna Purvis struck out swinging, but Davidson stole third and rounded to home for the tying run after a throwing error from the Middle Georgia catcher. The Knights would secure the third out and push the game to extra innings.

Through two more innings, the game remained tied three to three. With the 10th inning upon them, each team would now have the international tiebreaker in effect. The Lady Eagles survive the top of the 10th to keep the game going for at least one more half-inning.

Hailey O'Brien gets placed on second for the tiebreaking runner. Erika Mitchell takes the plate and singles off the bunt while O'Brien advances to third. Middle Georgia throws a crazy wild pitch and Hailey O'Brien scores with the walk-off steal to end the game after a long 10 innings.

Middle Georgia 3, Faulkner 1

In game two the scoring was hard to come by as the fielding of Faulkner and Middle Georgia was top-tier through four innings. The game remained scoreless. Until the top of the fifth inning, Middle Georgia scored the first point of the game off an RBI Morgan Windham allowing Carmen Phillips to score.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Eagles tied the game up with a sacrifice RBI from Anna Catherine Segrest which allowed Kaileigh Harrison to score. The Knights were able to retire the inning on the next play and head into the sixth inning with the game tied one to one.

The game continued as the Lady Eagles and the Knights battled back and forth keeping the score tied after seven innings. For the second game in a row, the two teams headed to extra innings. At the top of the eighth inning Middle Georgia's Morgan Windham singles to shortstop putting the lead runner on base. The next play Summer Lawrence hits a two-run RBI homerun and puts the Knight up three to one. The Lady Eagles were able to retire the inning before any more damage was done.

In the bottom of the eighth and the game on the line, the Lady Eagles fight for another chance to send it to one more inning. The Lady Eagles were unable to pull off the win after three straight outs sealed the game for the Knights and earned the split of the doubleheader series.

The Lady Eagles return to action on Wednesday, February 28 when they host Brenau University (Ga.) a team they already faced earlier this season and split that series one to one. The first pitch is set for 1 pm.
