MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Lady Eagles continued their hot streak with an upset split over crosstown NCAA D1 foe Alabama State Tuesday afternoon at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.
FAULKNER 6, ALABAMA STATE 4
Faulkner was down 2-0 through the first three innings. The Lady Eagles started the scoring with an RBI double from
Ivey Hill in the top of the fourth frame. In the top of the fifth inning,
Chloe Davidson singled down the left field line to reach first.
Anna Purvis singled to third base to advance Davidson to second.
Gracie Pittman mashed an 3-RBI moonshot deep into left to put the Lady Eagles up by two. Alabama State answered back with two runs off of an RBI single and an error in the bottom of the fifth frame to tie the game 4-4. Faulkner opened the final frame with back-to-back singles from
Anna Catherine Segrest and Purvis, respectively.
Erika Mitchell drove in the deciding runs with a 2-RBI double down the left field line to bring the score to 6-4.
Katelynn Inness worked all seven innings and allowed six hits and three earned runs and struck out five.
FAULKNER 5, ALABAMA STATE 7
Faulkner went scoreless through four but managed to surmount a comeback effort in the top of the fifth frame.
Kaileigh Harrison opened the frame with a single to short. Davidson singled to advanced Harrison to second. Segrest singled up the middle to load the bases.
Madelyn Becker hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Davidson. Segrest stole second to bring her season total to nine. Mitchell hit an RBI single down the left field line to advance Segrest and score Davidson. Mitchell advanced to second and Segrest scored on a wild throw from behind the plate. Hill and
Sarah Williams drew back-to-back walks on full counts to load the bases.
Ashtyn Pannell drew a third consecutive walk for an RBI. Hill scored from a misplay off of the third base glove to tie the game 5-5. Alabama State thwarted the Lady Eagle comeback effort in the bottom of the sixth with a clutch double to right center that scored two and gave Alabama State the final lead.
Julianna Thames pitched four innings, allowing eight hits five runs with three of them earned.
Hailey O'Brien made an appearance in relief and allowed two hits, two earned runs, two walks and struck out one over two innings of work.
Faulkner (11-8, 4-2 SSAC) returns to action at home Friday at 4 p.m. to face a new conference foe in Thomas.
