Blue Mountain, Miss - Faulkner took both games in SSAC play over Blue Mountain on the road Saturday afternoon. The Lady Eagles picked up their fifth and sixth win in the SSAC with the 13-5 and 5-1 results.
Faulkner 13, Blue Mountain 5 (6 Inn.)
The Lady Eagles took game one in Saturday's doubleheader against Blue Mountain with a 13- 5 mercy rule win in the sixth inning. Faulkner scored 13 runs off 11 hits through six innings to seal the victory.
Blue Mountain took the lead early in the first inning from a sacrifice fly by Iris Farve to send Haley McDaniel home. The Lady Eagles quickly answered back with a run of their own behind a score from Gracie Pittman coming home after a throwing error by the shortstop. The score stayed the same going into the top of the third with Faulkner at bat. Chloe Davidson reached first off an error, and Anna Catherine Segrest stole second after singling to first. Anna Purvis then singled to first to load the bases as Madelyn Becker took the box. Becker, with no outs, singled to center field for the two-run RBI. Davidson and Segrest scored and left Purvis on third. Purvis then put the Lady Eagles up by three after she scored off an error by the catcher.
The Lady Eagles would put on nine more runs through the next three innings from stellar hitting. Anna Purvis would double to center field for an RBI and Madelyn Becker homered for a three-run RBI in the top of the fourth. In the top of the sixth inning, the Lady Eagles put up five runs after several errors by the Blue Mountain fielders and a two-run RBI by Abby Terrell.
Blue Mountain would put up four runs in the bottom of the sixth, but the Lady Eagles would get the three outs needed before the comeback could be achieved and win game one 13-5 with a mercy rule.
Katelynn Inness picked up her seventh win of the season allowing just three earned runs over 5.1 innings before Haley O'Brien closed the door with the final two outs.
Faulkner 5, Blue Mountain 1
Faulkner picked up the doubleheader series sweep after clinching game two against the Toppers 5-1.
The Lady Eagles scored the first run after Madelyn Becker singled to left field for the RBI, and Anna Catherine Segrest scored. Blue Mountain would answer in the bottom of the first with an RBI from Evi Edwards. The score would remain tied until the top of the third inning. With the Lady Eagles at the plate and two on base, Madelyn Becker flew out to center for an RBI sacrifice. Davidson scored, and Segrest advanced to third. On the next play, Segrest would score off an error by the catcher. The Lady Eagles would head to the bottom of the third up three to one.
For three more innings, the score would look the same and Faulkner would head to the top of the seventh up 3-1. After a couple of hits and bunts, the Lady Eagles would put two runners in scoring position. Abby Terrell and Kaileigh Harrison would score off a throwing error from the pitcher after Chloe Davidson singled to increase the lead to 5-1. The Lady Eagles closed out the doubleheader sweep working around a two-out double.
Ivey Hill earned her third win of the year allowing just one run as all three Faulkner pitchers went the entire afternoon without issuing a walk.
The Lady Eagles (13-8, SSAC 6-2) return to action on Sunday when they travel to Pulaski,Tenn. to take on UT Southern. The first pitch is set for 2 pm.
