MOBILE, Ala. - Faulkner trailed by three then led by five twice but the Rams rallied to steal game three of the SSAC series from the Eagles Sunday afternoon at Jacobs Field 13-10.
Mobile turned three hits into three runs in the first inning and had bases loaded with one out, but
Nicholas Graham found a way out without any further damage with a couple of popups and the bats responded in a massive way.Â
Johnny Lopez led off the second with a homer before a bases loaded sacrifice fly from
Wesley Estrella cut the deficit to 3-2. A delayed double steal plated Eduarny Martinez and tied the game.
Juan Trinidad drove in another run to take the lead and chase the Rams' starter.
Orlando Lorduy was hit by a pitch with bases loaded and Lopez drove in two more the next at bat before
Christian Webb added another to make it 8-3.
The game stayed fairly stagnant until the bottom of the fifth when a two-run homer from the Rams cut the lead down to three and later turned things over to the Faulkner bullpen. Trinidad launched a two run shot to counter it in the top of the sixth to take another five run lead, but the Rams answered right back with a pair of homers in five total hits to cut it to 10-9. A seventh inning wild pitch tied the game before taking the lead the next inning on one and adding two to it with a single to take the 13-10 lead.Â
Trinidad and Lopez finished the game with three hits and three RBIs apiece. Webb had two hits. Lorduy took the loss on the hill as six different Eagles took the mound. The pitching staff combined for just two strikeouts but eight walks and two hit batsmen in the afternoon.
The Eagles (13-5 SSAC) now hold a 1.5 game lead over Loyola (10-5 SSAC), a two game lead over Point (11-7 SSAC) , a 2.5 game lead over William Carey (9-6 SSAC) and a three game lead over Middle Georgia (10-8 SSAC) for the top of the SSAC. Faulkner has 12 games to play with four total series left including the final two series being at Middle Georgia and home for Point.Â
The Eagles break from SSAC play but face in-state foe Talladega in nonconference action Thursday for a doubleheader at home. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
