Montgomery, Ala. - Lady Eagles picked up the series split on Thursday with a walk-off RBI double against the #13 ranked Mobile Rams. Mobile took game one 7-6 after 10 innings. Faulkner took game two 1-0 in the bottom of the eighth inning to pick up their ninth win in SSAC play.
Mobile 7, Faulkner 6
Mobile picked up game one over the Lady Eagles of Thursday afternoon's doubleheader 7-6 through 10 innings.
Mobile struck first in game one at the top of the second inning off an RBI single from Mattie Evans and drove Erin Degruise home for the first point. In the bottom of the second, Faulkner answered right back with a run of their own.
Ivey Hill doubled to the right to bring
Erika Mitchell across the plate. Hill gained the RBI and tied the game up 1-1 to enter the top of the third.
Mobile added two more at the top of the third. The game remained 3-1 until the bottom of the seventh inning. With the game on the line,
Abby Terrell took the box and singled up the middle for a two-run RBI.
Kaileigh Harrison and
Ashtyn Pannell tied the game after scoring off the Terrell single. The Rams would retire the side, and the game would head to extra innings.
For two more innings, the score remained tied, and the Rams took to bat for the top of the 10th inning. Mobile would put up four more runs to push their lead to 7-3. The Lady Eagles would end the top half of the inning and head to the bottom half to try for the comeback win. The Lady Eagles were able to bring the game within one after a few late RBIs, but Faulkner would come up short after the Rams would get the three outs needed to secure game one. The final score was 7-6.
Katelynn Inness started for the Lady Eagles inside the circle for game one. She threw for three strikeouts and gave up five earned runs through 9.1 innings.
Hailey O'Brien who relieved Inness allowed only one hit and threw one strikeout in 0.2 innings. O'Brien also allowed zero walks.
Faulkner 1, Mobile 0
The Lady Eagles picked up the doubleheader split in game two after eight innings with a walk-off RBI double. The game saw zero runs through seven and a half innings until the bottom of the eighth.
For game two of the series, hits were hard to come by as both pitchers made it hard for either team to put the ball in play. The game saw zero runs through seven innings. The Lady Eagles and Rams headed to extra innings for the second time in the day. Faulkner kept Mobile off the board and headed to the bottom of the eighth after leaving the Rams with two on the bases. Faulkner took the box for hopefully one last time. Mobile pulled off two outs early, but the Lady Eagles put the winning runner in position after a sacrifice bunt from Kaileigh Harrison. Chloe Davidson stepped up to the plate and sent Abby Terrell home for the walk-off RBI double to steal the series split 1-0 against the Rams.
Ivey Hill picked up her fourth win of the season, allowing zero earned runs and only four hits. She threw for four strikeouts and allowed only two walks.
The Lady Eagles (16-9, SSAC 9-3) return to the diamond on Friday for another doubleheader SSAC series against William Carey. The first pitch is set for 1 pm. at Wynn Field.
