Montgomery, Ala. - The Faulkner Lady Eagles took on the Morningside Mustangs Wednesday afternoon in doubleheader action. The Lady Eagles earned the sweep over the Mustangs after winning both games. In Game One Faulkner won 5-0 and in Game Two they won 7-0. The Lady Eagles were able to keep the Mustangs scoreless through 14 innings.

For game one the Lady Eagles started slow with only one run scored in the first two innings, but in the third inning, they took no time to put up four runs.Â

With Eavie Polk in the box to lead off she reached first from a throwing error by the catcher and then advanced to second. Chloe Davidson would then lay down the bunt to push Polk to third while earning first base. Davidson would then steal second, and Polk would score on a throwing error. Anna Catherine Segrest and Anna Purvis made it on the bases by a fielder's choice. With Gracie Pittman up to bat, she would hit a three-run RBI homerun to bring all base runners in to put the Lady Eagles up five to nothing.Â

For the remainder of game one, the score stood true. Neither team scored any runs. The Mustangs would fight hard but the Lady Eagles would quickly retire each top inning. The Lady Eagles started hot, but couldn't quite put any more runs on the board after Pittman's three-run homerun.Â

Despite the scoreless remaining innings, the Lady Eagles pulled out a much-needed victory over the Mustangs. They headed to the second game to try for the sweep of the doubleheader series.Â

Ivey Hill threw for seven strikeouts in game one. She had zero errors and only allowed four runs. With this type of game, she was able to help the Lady Eagles come away with the win and keep the Mustangs off the board.Â

Game two was very similar to the first game of the doubleheader. Great pitching and the early bats from the Lady Eagles won them the ball game. Chloe Davidson took the mound for game two. Davidson had seven strikeouts and zero errors. She allowed only two hits through seven innings.Â

Chloe Davidson was also the lead off-batter for Faulkner in game two. In the first inning, she singled down the left-field line and then made her way to second on a passed ball. Anna Catherine Segrest then laid down the bunt on her first at-bat and singled. Davidson advanced to third. Segrest then stole second base for her fourth stolen base of the year. Madelyn Becker would take the dish and double to right field for the RBI. Segrest would advance to third while Davidson would score the first run of the game.Â

Ivey Hill would single up the middle on the very next at-bat for the RBI. Segrest would score and Becker would make it to third base and then score off a throwing error by the catcher. Hill would also steal third. The Mustangs would be able to retire the inning with two straight outs.Â

In the bottom of the second inning, the Lady Eagles would take a commanding lead. With bases loaded and Madely Becker at the plate, she would homer to center field for the grand slam RBI. This would bring home Segrest, Davidson, and Purvis. The Lady Eagles would head to the third inning up seven to zero.Â

For five more innings, the Lady Eagles and Mustangs would remain scoreless. As in the first game, both teams would battle but couldn't manage to put up any runs. Davidson's pitching was a major factor in the shutout and sweep of the series.Â
The Lady Eagles return to action on Thursday, Mar 7, 2024, as they travel to Point for another doubleheader. The first pitch is set for 2:00 pm.
