West Point, Ga. - The Lady Eagles traveled to West Point, Ga. to face SSAC member Point University on Thursday afternoon. After the shutout in the doubleheader against Morningside University the day before, the Lady Eagles picked up another shutout sweep. The Lady Eagles saw four different pitchers over two days allow zero runs. Ivey Hill Chloe Davidson Katelynn Inness and Julianna Thames all pitched the entirety of each game and each helped Faulkner win both doubleheaders.
Faulkner 8, Point 0
In game one the game saw zero runs through the first inning, but in the top of the second inning, the Lady Eagles managed to put two on the board. With the bases loaded, Abby Terrell walked for the RBI to bring Madelyn Becker home for the first point of the game. Chloe Davidson would take to the plate and single to the shortstop for another RBI. She would allow Ivey Hill to score the second run. The Skyhawks would then retire in the half-inning.
The game would remain two to zero until the Lady Eagles headed to the top of the fourth inning. With the bases loaded yet again and the Lady Eagles looking to add to their lead Anna Catherine Segrest took to the box. She hit a fly out to the infield for the sacrifice fly and pushed Erika Mitchell home. The next at-bat, Anna Purvis singled to center field for a two-run RBI. Abby Terrell and Chloe Davidson scored from third and second base. Purvis would then score on an RBI by Madelyn Becker after she reached first by an error. The Skyhawks would get the third out and head to the bottom of the fourth down six to zero.
Two more innings would go by with the score remaining the same. The Lady Eagles would pour on two more runs in the top of the sixth. An RBI by Ivey Hill from a bunt would allow Kaileigh Harrison to score. The very next play Erika Mitchell grounded out to the shortstop, but Madelyn Becker would score, giving Mitchell the RBI. Point would end the top of the sixth inning and the score stood eight to zero.
The Lady Eagles would get the win in the bottom of the sixth inning with the final score of eight to zero.
Faulkner 7, Point 0
In game two the Lady Eagles and Skyhawks remained scoreless through three innings. In the top of the fourth inning, Faulkner put two runs on the board after doubling to center field for a two-run RBI. This allowed Kaileigh Harrison and Sarah Williams to score the first two points of the game.
In the top of the fifth inning, Abby Terrell bunted for a single and an RBI. Anna Purvis and Madelyn Becker were able to score after a couple of errors from the Skyhawks fielders. Point would then end the top of the inning and Faulkner would retire in the bottom of the fifth. The Lady Eagles would head into the sixth inning up four to zero.
The sixth inning would see no runs scored by either team. The game would enter the seventh inning with the Lady Eagles still up four to zero.
In the top of the seventh inning, Abby Terrell scored from third after a wild pitch and Erika Mitchell advanced to third base. Ashtyn Pannell would then single to the pitcher for an RBI, sending Mitchell home for another run. With Pannell on third base after stealing second, and advancing to third after a ground out from Harrison, Chloed Davidson singled to the shortstop for the RBI. Pannell scored and pushed the lead to seven.
Point would get their third out and head to the bottom of the seventh inning. The Lady Eagles would pick up three straight outs to seal the win and pick up the series sweep over the Skyhawks. The final score was seven to zero.
The Lady Eagles return to action back in Montgomery for a road game at Alabama State. They take on the Lady Hornets on Tuesday, March 12. The first pitch is set for 3:00 pm.
