Lady Eagles pick up program's 900th Wynn at Brewton-Parker

Mount Vernon, Ga. - The Lady Eagles traveled to Brewton-Parker on Friday for a doubleheader series. Faulkner picked up game one over the Lady Barons 3-1. This win put Coach Hal Wynn at 900 career wins for the founder of Faulkner Softball. This is the Lady Eagles' 20th win of the season and 13th inside SSAC play. In Game Two the Lady Barons stole the win after being down the entire game. They sealed the game with a walk-off two-run RBI to end the game 6-5.

Faulkner 3, Brewton-Parker 1

In game one, the Lady Eagles took down the Lady Barons 3-1 and picked up the 800th career win for Coach Hal Wynn. Faulkner picked up the win after scoring three runs off seven hits.

Faulkner started with the first point of the ball game after Madelyn Becker singled to right field and pushed Chloe Davidson across the plate for an RBI single and the 1-0 lead.

The score remained the same until the bottom of the third inning when Skylar Strickland scored off a throwing error to tie the game up for the Lady Barons. Faulkner retired the bottom half and headed to the fourth all-tied up.

The Lady Eagles took the box at the top of the frame and answered with a run of their own. Madelyn Becker scored after a sacrifice fly sent her home and gave Erika Mitchell the RBI. Both teams quickly ended the fourth, and the score sat at 2-1.

The game didn't see another point scored until the top of the sixth inning. Anna Purvis put the Lady Eagles up two after she scored off a throwing error from the second base player. The Lady Barons kept the Lady Eagles from increasing their lead but still couldn't get that go-head point in the bottom of the sixth.

In the top of the seventh, Brewton-Parker put three up and three down to send the game to the bottom of the frame and hopefully a game-winning at bat. The Lady Eagles avoided the comeback with three quick outs and earned the win for game one at Brewton-Parker.

Katelynn Inness picked up her seventh win of the season. She threw for a complete game with six strikeouts. She allowed zero earned runs and only four hits.

In game two the Lady Barons won 6-5 after trailing the whole game. They picked up the victory in walk-off fashion and earned the split after losing to Faulkner in game one.

In the first inning of the game, the Lady Eagles put up two points in a hurry. Chloe Davidson and Anna Purvis scored the first two runs after the RBI triple from Erika Mitchell. Faulkner turned around at the top of the second and put two more on the board. Ashtyn Pannell scored from third off a Chloe Davidson RBI triple to center field. The next at-bat, Anna Catherine Segrest sent Davidson home with an RBI bunt.

In the top of the third, the scoring onslaught continued as the Lady Eagles lead reached 5. Gracie Pittman scored off an Abby Terrell RBI single. The Lady Barons retired the inning and kept the score from increasing.

In the bottom of the third frame, Brewton-Parker scored their first point after, Alexis Bradshaw singled to center field for an RBI and scored Ashley Wilson. The game headed to the top of the fourth after Faulkner ended the bottom of the inning. The Lady Eagles were up 5-1.

The fourth inning saw zero runs scored, but in the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Barons brought the game back within one. Destiny Lucas put the game 5-4 after an inside-the-park home run that brought home three Lady Barons for the three-run RBI. Faulkner quickly retired the inning with the much-needed third out on the next play.

After the sixth, the score remained 5-4, and the game entered the top of the seventh inning. The Lady Eagles got on base after a couple of hits, but the Lady Barons ended the top half and headed to the bottom looking for the game-winner. With two on the bases for Brewton-Parker, Tori Wright took the box and hit the game-winning single for the walk-off two-run RBI. The final score stood 6-5, and the Lady Barons stole game two for the doubleheader split.

Julianna Thames pitched for the Lady Eagles in game two. She gave the team a chance with a complete game effort inside the circle.

Faulkner (20-13, SSAC 13-7) returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Middle Georgia State for another doubleheader series. The first pitch is set for noon.
