Big bats from Lady Eagles earn split with Stillman

Tuscaloosa, Ala. - Lady Eagles earn the split over Stillman on Saturday afternoon. Stillman picked up game one 7-1. Faulkner picked up game two early after a run rule ended the game after five innings. The final score was 11-3. The Lady Eagles picked up their twelfth win in SSAC play. 

Stillman 7, Faulkner 1

Stillman picked up game one against Faulkner 7-1 after seven innings. The Tigers sat at four runs after two innings of work against the Lady Eagles. The game remained 4-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning, where Madison Bubel scored off a Carolyn Carter RBI single. Karlie Davidson sent home Bailie Seales with the sacrifice fly RBI to put the Tigers up 6-0. Faulkner retired the inning with a quick third out after. 

The game headed to the top of the sixth. Faulkner needed some big bats to pull off the game-one comeback. Anna Purvis scored the first run for the Lady Eagles after a fielding error allowed Purvis to reach home. After six innings, the game sat at 6-1, with Stillman only needing three outs to clinch the win. The Lady Eagles went out to push the game to the bottom of the seventh but came up short after three quick outs by the Tigers. 

Faulkner had four hits in the game from Chloe Davidson Anna Purvis Gracie Pittman and Erika Mitchell each for a single. Katelynn Inness worked through four and one-third innings as the starter for the Lady Eagles. Julianna Thames relieved Inness for one and two-thirds of the remainder of the contest. Inness threw for four strikeouts, while Thames allowed only one earned run and zero walks. 

Faulkner 11, Stillman 3

The Lady Eagles earned the split against Stillman after five innings with the final score of 11-3. Faulkner put up 11 runs off of 13 hits in game two. The Lady Eagles had one error and allowed only three runs off six hits. 

The Lady Eagles started the game strong with two quick runs to put them up 2-0. Anna Catherin Segrest scored from third after Sarah Williams walked. Anna Purvis reached home on the next play after an error from the shortstop. The Tigers quickly retired the top half of the frame. The Lady Eagles picked up three straight outs to end the bottom of the first. 

In the top of the second, Anna Catherine Segrest and Anna Purvis scored two more after an RBI single from Sarah Williams and a fielding error by the infield. Abby Terrell pushed Erika Mitchell and Sarah Williams across the plate with a two-run RBI triple to put the Lady Eagles up 7-0. In the bottom half of the inning, the Tigers scored their first point from an RBI single by Carolyn Carter. The single brought Bailie Seales home and the score to 7-1. 

In the bottom of the third inning, the Tigers tacked on one more run and pulled the game within five. 

Faulkner took the box in the top of the fourth and picked up some big-time bats for the Lady Eagles. Williams scored off a passed ball to push the lead to six. Two batters later, Chloe Davidson singled to left field for an RBI that allowed Terrell to score from third. Anna Catherine Segrest drove home two more runs with an RBI single to left field. Ashtyn Pannell and Kaileigh Harrison crossed the plate for the tenth and eleventh runs of the game. The Tigers retired the top of the frame with two much-needed outs. Stillman tacked on another run to put the game at 11-3, but the Lady Eagles kept the Tigers from scoring another run. Faulkner pulled off the run-rule victory in the bottom of the fifth inning with the final score of 11-3. 

Ivey Hill picked up her sixth win of the season. She allowed only three earned runs through five innings and threw for two strikeouts. 

Faulkner (19-12, SSAC 12-6) returns to action on Friday when they travel to Mount Vernon, Ga. to take on Brewton-Parker in a SSAC doubleheader series.
