LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - A couple tough innings snowballed away from the Eagles and forced a winner-take-all game Thursday morning against national No. 2 Georgia Gwinnett as the Grizzlies took a 16-3 win to keep their season alive.
Faulkner was close to limiting the first inning damage to just one run, but could not convert the double play ball to get out of the inning. Instead the Grizzlies plated two runs on the play and four more after to take a 7-0 lead after one.
Orlando Lorduy hit a two run homer in the third, but GGC got one back in the bottom half.
Three fifth inning errors turned into five runs as Georgia Gwinnett took its lead to 14-2 before adding one more in the sixth and seventh to make it 16-2.
Jorge Lucero's single scored a consolation run in the ninth.
The Eagles and Grizzlies will face off Thursday at 10 a.m. central with the winner advancing to Lewiston.
