JACKSON, Tenn. – Faulkner finished off its SSAC Baseball Championship performance Friday with a 4-0 victory over Loyola in the final game of Pool A. The Eagles got masterful pitching from the combination of
Marco Ozuna and
Hunter Dupuy to limit a potent Wolfpack offense to four hits and just seven total baserunners.
Ozuna struck out seven batters over four and two-thirds innings of work. Dupuy entered with two outs in the fifth and threw one pitch to shut down the burgeoning Wolfpack rally. He went the rest of the way, finishing with four and third innings of work while striking out seven and allowing just one hit and two walks.
Jack Brinkley gave his team the early lead in the second with a two-run single that plated
Francisco Soriano and Eduarny Martinez. The score stayed there until the fifth when
Orlando Lorduy singled in Brinkley to move it to 3-0. The Eagles added one more run in the seventh when
Juan Trinidad singled in Soriano to move it to 4-0.
Faulkner (35-15) sits and awaits word from the NAIA selection committee to learn its fate regarding the national tournament. The selection show is scheduled for next Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
