MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Johnson Thursday night at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium Thursday night as the Royals equalized late to cancel out a 34th minute goal from
Cassie Jackson.
After lightning delayed kickoff by about 45 minutes, the match started with a handful of opportunities for the visitors including a free kick hitting the crossbar in the 5th minute, but Faulkner held strong.
Jackson scored her second goal of the season with a 34th minute finish after a brilliant build up from
Alessia Confalonieri. The Italian stole the ball at midfield and cut around one defender and dribbled another 30 yards before going around another and slotting a perfectly weighted through ball to the striker. Jackson's right footed finish found the left side netting.
Faulkner held the lead for most of the remainder of the match around some stellar defending, highlighted by great stops from Keila Cardeiro who had five saves in the match. However, a corner in the 87th minute was rolled to the penalty spot and hit into the top corner to level it.
The Lady Eagles outshot Johnson 11-9 and put two more shots on target than the Royals in a very even, physical match.
A three match road trip against NCAA teams begins Saturday as Faulkner travels to Shorter to take on the Hawks at 6 p.m.
