PULASKI, Tenn. – Faulkner split a Sunday doubleheader at Tennessee Southern, finishing 3-1 in SSAC play on the weekend.
FAULKNER 8, TENNESSEE SOUTHERN 5
The Lady Eagles notched 11 hits in the opener and took advantage of four Firehawk errors for the 8-5 victory. Faulkner opened the scoring in the second inning when
Gracie Pittman drew a walk and made it home on a
Sarah Williams double to left. The 1-0 lead grew in the third when
Campbell Hecklinski walked and later scored on an
Addyson Jarman infield single.
Chloe Davidson reached on a single to left and scored on an error for the 3-0 advantage. Pittman then singled to drive in Jarman to make it 4-0.
After the Firehawks got a run back in the bottom of the third, Faulkner put two more runs on the board in the fifth.
Anna Catherine Segrest reached on an error and scored on a Pittman single to right.
Eavie Polk entered to run for Pittman and made it home on a
Madelyn Becker double to center to stretch the lead to 6-1.
UTS narrowed the gap in the fifth with a pair of runs before plating two more in the sixth to cut the Faulkner lead to 6-5.
Pittman opened the seventh with a leadoff single to left for her third hit of the day.
Allie Wismer entered to run for the Lady Eagles and advanced to second on a Becker single. Williams dropped down a sacrifice to move both runners up. Wismer scored on an error before
Kelbi Johnson picked up an RBI on a groundball that drove in Becker.
Hailey O'Brien (1) worked around a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh to end the game and notch her first save of the season. She worked an inning and a third with a strikeout.
Reece Patterson (3-0) worked 5.1 innings for the win.
TENNESSEE SOUTHERN 10, FAULKNER 2 (5 innings)
Faulkner struck first in game two as a Davidson single to open the game resulted in her later scoring on an error for the 1-0 lead. The advantage proved short-lived as the Firehawk offense buzz-sawed its way to 10 runs on 14 hits. UTS scored in every frame of the five-inning game, putting up crooked numbers in four of those. The Lady Eagles got a Johnson double in the second inning but couldn't cash in. Davidson had a leadoff double in the third that amounted to no runs. Johnson hit a solo homer in the fourth to make it 8-2. Faulkner looked to rally in the fifth when a Davidson walk preceded singles by Segrest and Jarman to load the bases. However, a line drive double play squelched the threat. The Firehawks walked it off with the run rule in the fifth.
Faulkner (5-1) gets back to work Tuesday when it travels to Daphne, Ala. for the first time to take on United States Sports Academy.
