MONTGOMERY, Ala. – On a day that included 46 combined hits, Faulkner softball dropped both ends of a doubleheader to SSAC foe Mobile Friday afternoon.
MOBILE 10, FAULKNER 7 (10 INNINGS)
The Lady Eagles trailed 4-0 with two outs in the bottom of the fifth of game one when they found a way to change the game.
Chloe Davidson singled up the middle before
Anna Catherine Segrest drew a walk.
Addyson Jarman ripped a hotshot to third that the defender knocked down, recovered and fired to first base a half step too late to get the speedy Faulkner freshman.
Kensley Wesley followed with an infield single to short to get two runs in and cut it to 4-2.
Madelyn Becker then singled down the line in left to get Jarman home and narrow it to 4-3.
Abby Terrell flipped the game with her first homer of the season, a three-run shot that put Faulkner up 6-4 and chased the Mobile starting pitcher.
The lead proved short-lived as Mobile got back two in the top of the sixth to tie the game before plating one in the seventh to lead 7-6. Segrest started the home half of the seventh with a walk before Jarman singled to put two runners aboard with nobody out. Wesley put down a sacrifice bunt before Becker singled to center to get Segrest home and tie the game. With the winning run at third and less than two outs, Faulkner did not hit another ball out of the infield in the frame. The Lady Eagles finished the game 1-for-13 after Becker's single in the seventh.
The teams played to a stalemate in the eighth and ninth innings before the Rams took advantage of the international tiebreaker rule in the 10th to get three runs across and seal the win.
MOBILE 5, FAULKNER 4
The Rams took the lead in the top of the first in game two of the day before Faulkner answered in the home half of the frame. Davidson single to short. Two batters later, Jarman launched a two-run homer to left for the 2-1 lead.
After Mobile took a 3-2 lead in the second, Faulkner regained the advantage in the third. Wesley reached on an error that allowed Davidson to score and tie the game. Terrell followed with a single to center to get Becker home for the 4-3 lead. The Rams then plated two in the fourth to go up 5-4.
Katie Kempton shut down the Faulkner hitters for 4.1 innings of relief works as she issued no walks and allowed just one hit to move to 4-2 on the season.
Faulkner (12-6, 3-3 SSAC) returns to action Friday, March 21 when it hosts Brewton-Parker at 1 p.m.
