MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Faulkner hung 14 runs on the board to win game one of the doubleheader before dropping the nightcap.
FAULKNER 14, BREWTON-PARKER 2
The Eagles were nothing short of dominant in the first game of the doubleheader, hanging 14 runs on the board to clinch the series victory. Faulkner opened the scoring in the top of the first when Eduarny Martinez doubled to left to drive in
Juan Trinidad and
Jeyson Polanco.
Marlon Oviedo later singled to right to drive in Edrien and Eduarny Martinez for the 4-0 advantage.
Brewton-Parker got a pair of runs back in the home half to cut it to 4-2.
Polanco scored on an error in the second to push it to 5-2.
Kenny Di Clemente singled home Eduarny Martinez in the third to push the lead to 6-2. Oviedo and
John-Michael Riley scored on an error in the sixth to set the margin at 8-2. Edrien Martinez then doubled to right to plate Luis Lizarraga and Polanco for the 10-2 advantage.
Oviedo singled to center in the seventh to get Riley home for the 11-2 advantage. Polanco stroked a three-run homer later in the frame to make it 14-2.
That offensive output was more than enough to back the efforts of
Mose Hayes and
Mat Mayer on the mound. Hayes (4-0) worked five innings while scattering five hits and striking out five. Mayer followed with two innings of one-hit, shutout work.
BREWTON-PARKER 12, FAULKNER 10
Pitching collapsed in game two of the day as the Eagles allowed 12 runs on 13 hits. The Barons posted a five-spot in the bottom of the seventh to take an 11-9 lead. They added one more in the eighth to move the margin to 12-9.
The Barons opened the scoring in the top of the first when it took a 1-0 lead. Polanco tied the game in the game in the third when Polanco hit a solo homer. Di Clemente later smacked a three-run shot to put the Eagles up 4-1.
Lorduy added on in the fourth when he singled to center to drive in Lizarraga and Polanco for the 6-1 lead. Lorduy later scored on an error to move it to 7-1.
The Barons got five across in the bottom of the fourth to narrow it to 7-6. Faulkner got some insurance in the sixth when Trinidad and Lizarraga scored to move it to 9-6.
Faulkner pushed one across in the ninth when Trinidad singled home Dariel Colon to make it 12-10 and get the tying run to the plate. BPC's Carlos Rodriguez got the strikeout to end the game.
Faulkner (22-6, 11-4 SSAC) travels to Talladega Tuesday before heading to Point University next weekend.
